Gov’t Committed to Education – Rhodd

State Minister for Education, Youth and Culture, Dr. Donald Rhodd, has said that government was committed to investing in education for the country’s long-term sustainability.
Noting the significant returns from devoting resources to the sector, he said it would improve human capital, ensure enhanced productivity and increase the country’s competitiveness.
“The transformation of the Jamaican society depends largely on the progress we make in educating our people,” Dr. Rhodd said, as he addressed the Guy’s Hill High School awards ceremony.
Thirty-five staff members of the St. Catherine school were honoured for outstanding contribution and years of service at the function held recently at the Ruins Restaurant in Ocho Rios.
“Our honourees have contributed to the development of the Guy’s Hill community in particular and Jamaica in general, not only in paid service, but also in the area of volunteerism,” Dr. Rhodd stated.
He noted that, “the ceremony not only offers the opportunity to celebrate dedication and excellence of the teaching profession, but it also allows us to rejoice at the attainment of high standards of teaching and to inspire others in the profession to aspire to these high quality attributes that define the work of each and every teacher in our country.”
He congratulated the recipients of the long service awards and urged the teachers to prepare to contribute and participate in the process now underway, to transform the education system. Among those who received awards were Dalbert Hamilton and Gwendolyn Harris, who have each served the institution for more than 30 years.
