November 22, 2010

The Full Story

Governor-General His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, has expressed regret at the death of former Custos of Kingston, Rev. Canon the Hon. Weeville Gordon. Following is the full text of The Governor-General’s message:
Lady Allen joins me in expressing regret at the death of Reverend Canon the Hon. Weeville Gordon, OJ, CD.
‘Canon’ as he was affectionately called, served Jamaica with distinction in many spheres; in religion, community development, as Custos Rotulorum for the parish of Kingston and as Deputy Governor-General on behalf of three consecutive Governors-General. He served with dignity, humility and dedication until his retirement from public life last year.
Jamaica has lost a son whose commitment to sound values and high ideals has encouraged many individuals and inner-city youth particularly in Allman Town, to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve. He will be missed for his mild mannered and approachable personality, and the willingness with which he freely shared his knowledge, advice and opinion with others.
On behalf of the staff of King’s House who has worked very closely with Canon Gordon over the years, I extend condolence to his widow, children and members of his family. It is our hope that they and all Jamaica will find comfort in the treasured memories of his remarkable life.
