Government of Jamaica to Continue Relief Efforts for Hurricane Affected Neighbours

The government of Jamaica through the combined efforts of the Ministries of Labour and Social Security, Local Government and Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, has been engaged in evacuating Jamaicans living in the Caribbean and the British Virgin Islands, who were affected by the recent Hurricanes.

To date approximately 100 Jamaicans were brought home.

On Sunday September 24, 2017, in a bid to further support the victims, three (3) aircrafts will take relief supplies to affected countries. Jamaicans, who are desirous of coming home, will also be given the opportunity to do so. Indications are that there are still over 50 persons who wish to return home.

Relief supplies consisting of, but not limited to tinned meats, water, baby food, diapers, tarpaulins, stoves, mattresses, batteries, cleaning and disinfectant supplies, will be airlifted on Sunday.  The government would like to place on record its sincere thanks to the Management of Scotia Bank, Jamaica Ltd., for its generosity in providing the supplies to make this significant contribution to our Caribbean neighbours in this time of need.
