Gordon Headed for the Eastern Azore

The Full Story

At 4:00 a.m. the centre of Hurricane Gordon was located near Latitude 34.9 degrees north and Longitude 31.6 degrees west or about 950 kilometres west southwest of the Azores.

Gordon is moving towards the east near 37 km/h. A turn toward the east-northeast is expected later today. On the forecast track the centre of Gordon will be near or over the islands of the eastern Azores early Monday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 165 km/h, with higher gusts. Gordon is a category two hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. Weakening is forecast but Gordon is still expected to be a Hurricane, when it passes near or over the eastern Azores.

Helene Degenerates into a Broad Area of Low…

At 10:00 p.m. the centre of Post-Tropical Cyclone Helene was located near Latitude 22.8 degrees north and Longitude 99.1 degrees west or about 140 kilometres west northwest of Tampico, Mexico.

The low is expected to move towards the west northwest near 6 km/h, until dissipation.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 45 km/h, with higher gusts in a few squalls. The low is forecast to dissipate on Sunday.

Neither Hurricane Gordon nor Tropical Depression Helene is a threat to Jamaica.
