Good Support for Labour Day Project at Newell High

There was excellent support for the national/parish project in St. Elizabeth on Labour Day (May 24), with many persons turning out to assist in the completion of a classroom at Newell High School.
Principal of Newell High, Lackett Cuff, told JIS News that construction of the classroom began during the last school year.
“We are pleased that it was given the status of the parish Labour Day project. We are thankful for the community participation, and we are appreciative of the contribution of all,” he said.

The Principal pointed out that the facility would accommodate the welding department.
Acting Custos of St. Elizabeth, Hon. Wilfred Nembhard, said that the building of the classroom and expansion of educational facilities at Newell, augured well for the provision of quality education in the parish.
“Members of the community have rallied around in the spirit of community building, and as a citizen of the parish, I want to thank them for their continued co-operation. We can always rely on our people in St. Elizabeth to come together to do voluntary work for the benefit of not only this generation, but for those to come,” the Acting Custos said.
Meanwhile, Community Development Officer with the Social Development Commission (SDC), Natalee Bradford-Remekie, who was also on hand to help with the day’s work, said that the new classroom would impact the school, and benefit the children.

“We have done mobilisation for other projects across the parish. Six other SDC officers are manning those projects, and giving their support to the communities,” she said.
Also assisting with the project were Mayor of Black River, Councillor Jeremy Palmer, and Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Christopher Tufton, who is also Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
