GG to be Guest of Honor at Jamaica 50 Diaspora Honors Gala, Miami

The Governor General of Jamaica, His Excellency, the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, will be the Guest of Honor at the Jamaica 50th Diaspora Honors & Awards Ceremony and Benefit Gala to be held on Saturday, August 18th, at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown Miami.

The official jubilee celebration titled “The Journey” – is being presented under the auspices of the Consul General of Jamaica, the Honorable Sandra Grant Griffiths.

Highlight of the evening will be a salute to an Honor Roll of distinguished nationals who have had a significant impact on communities across the Jamaican Diaspora in South USA, Bahamas and Cayman Islands as well as to the development of their homeland. 

Entertainment will include an anthology of Jamaican music presented by the Mighty Vikings – Jamaica’s original “Show Band” also showcasing young musicians from the Alpha Boys’ Band of Kingston.  The “Jubilee Post Party” will feature community celebrity disc jockeys.

The Consul General expressed pleasure in the continued recognition of our Diaspora’s contribution signified in the Governor General’s acceptance of the invitation to join the Jamaican Community for the Gala Awards and celebration to be held in Miami.   She described the occasion as “a celebration of the members of our extended community and their role in community building and national development – a contribution that both resonates in the diverse fabric of the great American landscape and zealously kept the home fires burning over the years in pace with our young “Nation on A Mission”, as the 2012 celebration theme declares”.

Proceeds from the Benefit Gala will establish the "Jamaica Diaspora Community Legacy Fund" which will go towards the development of a community cultural center for the Jamaican Diaspora community.

The Consul General thanked the many sponsors who have embraced the vision of celebrating a community of contributors at home and abroad.  Founding sponsors include the National Weekly, J.
