Garvey Exhibition Continues

The Full Story

An exhibition showcasing the life and work of National Hero, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, continues its run at the South Regional/Broward Community College Library in Pembroke Pines.
The month-long display, which will continue until the end of August, contains a wide variety of photographs, posters, artwork and writings of the late National Hero during his active involvement and accomplishments in politics, cultural organization, trade union development, and journalism.
The Highlight of the Garvey exhibition is the tribute in commemoration of his 120th birthday anniversary on August 17, at the Cultural Arts Centre of the Library. The event begins at 6:00 p.m., and is free to the public.
Guest speaker is Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Professor of Black Studies, the City College in New York.
The evening’s entertainment will include cultural performances, audio-visual, and oral presentations. Art displays at the exhibition include contributions from acclaimed artist and Garvey acquaintance, Charles Mills as well as Jamaican artist, Elgo Lewis, among others.
The exhibition and extravanganza are organized by the Broward County Library Division, the Broward Community College and RootzFoundation, Incorporated.
