Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Howard Cooke, brought cheer to the staff and patients of the Port Antonio Hospital, when he paid an official visit to that institution on Tuesday (Nov. 30).
The Governor General, who was accompanied by Custos of Portland, Roy Thompson, the hospital’s board and officers of the North Eastern Regional Health Authority (NEHRA), greeted staff and patients as he toured the various service areas of the hospital.Among the areas visited were the male and female surgical and medical wards, the children’s ward, the maternity ward and the blood bank.
Sir Howard said he regarded his annual visits to the island’s hospitals as very important engagements, as they allowed to view first-hand, the level of care being provided by those facilities.
He said he was pleased with the level of service being delivered at the Port Antonio hospital, noting that the staff had displayed compassion, care and a high level of professionalism in the performance of their duties.
Sir Howard noted further, that he was always appreciative of the warmth and graciousness with which the Port Antonio hospital received him whenever he visited, adding that he was impressed with the cleanliness and tidy appearance of the facility.
