Franklyn to Address Diaspora Symposium

Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Delano Franklyn will deliver the keynote address at a Diaspora symposium in New York on June 11.
The symposium will be held at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in midtown Manhattan, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Senator Franklyn, who has responsibility for the Jamaican Diaspora, will use the forum to outline the progress of the Jamaica Diaspora Foundation, since it was formalized at a conference in Kingston, Jamaica, last June. The symposium will also mark the one year anniversary of the Foundation.
“This symposium will build on a number of resolutions passed at last year’s historic conference in Jamaica concerning the involvement of the Jamaica Diaspora in nation building,” Ambassador to the United States, Professor Gordon Shirley told JIS News.
Ambassador Shirley is convenor of the symposium and one of the featured speakers.
The symposium is expected to bring together community leaders, elected representatives from Jamaica and the Diaspora and Jamaicans in the United States, who will take part in frank, open discussions, with a view to taking advantage of the emerging opportunities in the island.
The symposium is being staged in conjunction with the Embassy of Jamaica in Washington, D.C., and Jamaica Impact (JAMPACT) Inc.
