Four Persons Confirmed Dead

The Full Story

Four deaths have been confirmed and over 15 persons reported missing as a result of the heavy showers associated with Tropical Storm Nicole.

According to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), the deaths are from Flagaman, St. Elizabeth; Barbican and Riverside Drive in St. Andrew, and Christian Pen-Banga Gully in St. Catherine.
Since the start of the heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Nicole, the following centres have been activated: The National Emergency Operations Centre. All Parish Emergency Operations Centres.Ministry of Health Emergency Operations Centre.Jamaica Public Service Emergency Operations Centre.Tourism Emergency Operations Centre.Additionally, the Jamaica Fire Brigade dispatched units to evacuate trapped
persons in Sterling Castle as well as Riverside Drive, Havendale, and New Haven in St. Andrew.
Meanwhile, ODPEM, the Red Cross and Food For The Poor have dispatched relief items, including food and bedding to shelters across the island. Individuals in affected communities have also received tarpaulins, courtesy of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) and other Parish Councils and the Ministry of Labour of Social Security.
A flash flood warning remains in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas across the island.
