Former Secretary/Manager Honoured by St. Thomas Parish Council

Six persons, including former Secretary/Manager of the St. Thomas Parish Council, Clinton Gordon, have received awards and citations, for their contribution to the Council.
The awards were presented at the Council’s annual Staff Dinner and Awards Banquet, held on December 22, on the lawns of the Whispering Bamboo Cove Resort, in Retreat, St. Thomas.
Retirees Kilroy Ford and Dorritt Woodcock received plaques for their outstanding and dedicated years of service to the Council, while Richard Clarke, Dr. Sukanya Prasad and Fitzroy O’Gilvie were commended for their contribution to the care and well-being of residents of the St. Thomas Infirmary.
“I feel happy to know that somebody recognised me for what I was doing,” Mr. O’Gilvie told JIS News.
A contractor by profession, Mr. O’Gilvie, who now lives in the Cayman Islands, said he has been making donations to the Infirmary since 2003. This year, he would be presenting six beds to the institution. He is also planning a luncheon for the 140 residents on Christmas Day (December 25).
Mr. Gordon was presented with gifts by employees of the Council. He was also lauded by Councillors and employees of the Council, including Superintendent of Works, Earl Dawkins; Mayor of Morant Bay, Hanif Brown; Councillor Joan Spencer and the newly appointed Secretary/Manager, Fay Neufville.
“I have tremendous respect and regard for him, notwithstanding the fact that we didn’t always see eye to eye, but I respected his wealth of knowledge. I respected the things he taught me,” Mayor Brown said.
A message from the Member of Parliament for Western St. Thomas and Minister without Portfolio, Office of the Prime Minister, James Robertson, which was read by Mayor Brown, praised the outstanding work done by the former Secretary/Manager.
In his reply, Mr. Gordon, who is the current Secretary/Manager at the St. Ann Parish Council, said his achievements at the Council could be attributed to the commitment and hard work of the employees and Councillors.
“They had knowledge, they had spunk and they were willing to share their ideas. Ideas make things happen and all persons had ideas and they brought their ideas to the table,” he said.
