Foreign Minister Baugh Attends Rio Group Meeting in Mexico

Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Dr. Kenneth Baugh departed the island this morning (Wednesday) to attend tomorrow in Mexico, the 27th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Rio Group in Mexico.
Jamaica is CARICOM’s representative to the Rio Group for the period July 2008 to July 2011. The Group, which was formed in 1986 at a meeting in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, comprises countries from Latin America and the Caribbean region. It has as its mandate the pursuit of political dialogue/consultation and cooperation for the development of the region.
The impact of the international financial crisis on the region is one of the key issues which will engage the attention of the Foreign Ministers as they seek to promote the region’s welfare.
Minister Baugh is scheduled to return on Friday, 14th November 2008.
