Flood Damage Rehabilitation Programme Receives $100 Million

The Flood Damage Rehabilitation Programme of the Ministry of Local Government and Environment has received an allocation of $100 million for the 2007/08 period.
This provision is outlined in the Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.
The objectives of this programme are to rehabilitate approximately 65 kilometres of flood damaged parochial roads with farming activities in six parishes, namely St. Ann, Manchester, Clarendon, St. Catherine, St. Thomas and St. Elizabeth; and to rehabilitate approximately 20 kilometres of flood damaged farm roads in the parishes of St. Thomas, St. Catherine, Manchester, St. Elizabeth and Clarendon.
Anticipated targets for the new financial year include the awarding of road rehabilitation contracts and the rehabilitation of 39 road segments islandwide. Achievements up to March 2007 include negotiation of funding agreement with the European Union; on-going identification of roads to be rehabilitated; the rehabilitation of 62 road segments totalling 109.458 kilometres in six parishes, and the construction of one Bailey bridge.
The programme is being funded by the Government and European Union and is scheduled to be completed in December 2012.
