Flash Flood Watch Remains in Effect

The Meteorological Service has extended the Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Ann, St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas, Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine until 5:00 p.m.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Warning is issued.

The pre-frontal Trough that has been influencing the weather conditions across Jamaica has drifted to the east away from the island with the associated Cold Front currently across the island. Although most of the active weather associated with the system is east of Jamaica, satellite imagery and rainfall data indicate that showers continue to affect sections of eastern parishes. During the past 12 hours, 36.4 millimeters of rainfall was recorded at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and 3.4 millimeters at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.

The forecast is for periods of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to continue to affect sections of the island especially eastern parishes, as the Cold Front gradually weakens and moves toward the east by this afternoon.

Fishers and other marine interests are advised to exercise caution, as gusty winds and rough seas are likely in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation.
