Flash Flood Warning Extended

The Meteorological Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood prone areas of all parishes until 5:00 p.m. today September 30.
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING means flooding has been reported or will occur shortly. Motorists and pedestrians should not attempt to cross flooded roadways or other low-lying areas as strong currents are likely. Residents in low-lying areas should be on the alert for rising waters and be ready to move quickly to higher ground.
Satellite imagery indicates that a broad area of Low Pressure associated with the remnants of Tropical Depression 16 which later became Tropical Storm Nicole continues to affect weather conditions across the island. Rainfall data indicates that accumulations in excess of 100 millimeters collected over a 12 hour period have been recorded at various weather stations across the island. The forecast is for continued showers and thunderstorms to affect Jamaica for the next 48 hours.
Due to the gusty wind conditions and above normal wave heights north and south of the island, fishers and other marine interests, are being advised not to venture far from.
At 4:00 p.m. the centre of dissipated Tropical Storm Nicole was located near latitude 24.5 degrees north and longitude 80.0 degrees west. The remnants of Nicole are moving toward the north northeast at 19 km/h; however an area of Low Pressure with strong winds reaching gale force is expected to develop near the southeast United States coast.
Maximum sustained winds are near 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Winds associated with Nicole should gradually weaken.
The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the progress of this system.
