November 4, 2010

The Full Story

The Ministry of National Security has assumed responsibility for the first shelter for trafficked persons. The shelter has been retrofitted and funding for its furnishing will be provided by the Ministry of Justice.
This was announced by Minister with responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz, at the Post Cabinet Press Briefing on November 3.
Minister Vaz said that Cabinet noted an annual report by the United States of America’s Department of State that the country had retained its Tier 2 ranking of making significant efforts towards achieving full compliance in the elimination of the trafficking of persons.
This shelter is one of three that have been earmarked by the Government to house and protect victims of human trafficking. The Ministry of National Security is the agency responsible for reducing trafficking of persons through prevention, prosecution and protection.
