First Kite Festival in Trelawny March 22

March 12, 2008

The Full Story

The first ever Trelawny kite festival and family fun day will be staged on Saturday, March 22, on the grounds of YOW’s entertainment complex in Rio Bueno. Organizer for the event and Executive Board Member of the St. Ann Branch of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Karen Bedasee told JIS News that the festival was her idea, and she was working assiduously to make it a success.
“Out of this family membership at JCDC, we have found out that there is a need for Trelawny to have its own kite festival and family fun day, culturally interacting in the school and out of school. We have decided that YOW’s entertainment complex in Rio Bueno is the perfect setting, owing to the wind consistency and the space that is uninterrupted by trees,” Miss Bedasee said.
She explained that a fun filled package would be provided for the whole family, informing that activities for the children would include, bounce-about, face painting, go cart, trampoline, ferris wheel, ball throw, water slide and clown performances, among others.
“In the evening at 7 o’clock, we will be featuring artistes like Romaine Virgo, Little Hero, Turbulence, Prophecy, Chuckle Berry, Xale, Roy Ryan, Bully Cat, Eddie Blacks and Dada, among others,” she said.
Miss Bedasee is imploring members of the business community in Trelawny to join in promoting the festival, so that it can prove successful in becoming an annual event.
“It is going to be very exciting. We will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 22. Kids will pay only $50 and adults will pay $200 and we ask that you bring your best behaviour,” she said.
