Fifteen Receive GG’s Awards in Middlesex

Fifteen persons from the County of Middlesex, were presented with awards under the Governor-General’s Awards Scheme, during a ceremony at the Kendal Camp and Conference Centre in Manchester on July 30.
Five of the recipients received the Governor-General’s Achievement Award for Community Service, while the remaining ten, all young people, were presented with the Governor-General’s Youth Award for Excellence.
Addressing the function, the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, said the recipients of Achievement Awards were rewarded for work they undertook in community building, and the youth awardees, for excelling in their chosen fields.
“The Governor-General’s Achievement Awards, have become an important part of the recognition, that we give to persons, who have risen from humble beginnings and have a record of outstanding community stewardship. The Governor-General’s Youth Award for Excellence, recognises those young persons who have demonstrated a healthy social conscience, while performing at the highest level in academics and entrepreneurship,” Sir Kenneth stated.
The Governor-General noted that the scheme sends a clear message that good work will not go unnoticed, adding that it is a show of appreciation for the valuable work of and role played by the many individuals, groups, and organisations across the country, who are actively involved in promoting and facilitating community development.
“It is our way of celebrating these unsung heroes. The Awards allow us to give them the recognition that they deserve and to celebrate their contribution to national development, as we seek to shape a just society for our people. These recipients illustrate that we, as a people, have the will and social capacity to establish our agenda for continued development. Equally important is the message that is being conveyed to our young people, that they can engage in the building of human and social capital, that will foster national dialogue and promote harmony and stability,” he said.
