Fifty farmers in St Thomas will be recognized for their contribution to agriculture at an awards ceremony and fun day scheduled for April 26, at the Good Year sports ground in the parish.
The farmers will be presented with certificates and plaques at the event, which begins at 10:00 a.m.Parish Manager for the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) in St. Thomas, Clifton Parris told JIS News that the aim of the ceremony was to acknowledge those farmers who have contributed to agricultural productivity locally and internationally.
He said that farmers who have contributed over 15 years of service to the sector would receive gold awards, while those with 10 to 15 years service would get silver awards. Bronze awards will be presented to farmers with five to 10 years service.
Mr. Parris stressed that recipients must be community oriented and be good role models to qualify for these awards.
The event will begin with a church service at the Leith Hall Baptist Church in Leith Hall, St Thomas, on Sunday, April 22, starting at 11:00 a.m.
The awards function is part of activities to celebrate National Farmers’ Month (April) in the parish and it is being organized by the JAS and its associate branch societies.
