Farmers in Portland Co-Operating with Registration Programme

The national Farmers’ Registration Programme moved one step further in Portland on March 15, with the photographing of several farmers for their identification cards.
These identification cards will be vital to members of the farming community, as they will prove their authenticity as farmers and used along with the farmer’s receipt book, as part of the effort to reduce the incidence of praedial larceny.
Artnell Campbell, Web Programmer for the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), who conducted the photographic session, told JIS News that he was pleased with the co-operation of the farmers of Portland, as their possession of identification cards would go a far way to ensure that the country’s farming community was properly organized and better protected.
He noted that members of staff of the Port Antonio office of RADA were receiving the necessary training to enable them to properly conduct subsequent photographic sessions.
Crawford Clarke, RADA Parish Manager for Portland, congratulated the farmers who attended the session and encouraged the others in the parish to make every effort to ensure that they are included in the other sessions.
He also urged those farmers not yet registered to do so at the Port Antonio RADA office, Mondays to Thursdays between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.Many of the photographed farmers told JIS News that they were pleased with the initiative, and pledged their full support for the Farmers’ Registration Programme and the fight against praedial larceny in the parish.
