Mrs. Faith Webster has been appointed the Executive Director of the Bureau of Women and Gender Affairs in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports (MICYS).
Mrs. Webster joined the then Bureau of Women’s Affairs in 1997 as a Public Education Training Officer, moving to the position of Policy Analyst in 1999. In 2001 she was appointed Director of Policy and Research and in 2005, Acting Executive Director of the Bureau.
In her various capacities at the Bureau, Mrs. Webster has represented Jamaica at several local, regional and international conferences, making presentations on various women’s/gender issues including gender mainstreaming, women’s rights, gender-based violence and sexual harassment.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies (UWI) and a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies also at UWI.
Mrs. Webster’s appointment has been commended by Minister Olivia Grange, who says she is pleased to have someone with Mrs. Webster’s experience and qualification to head up a division as important as the Bureau of Women and Gender Affairs.
