February 5, 2004

The Full Story

Residents of St. Ann, as well as visitors to the parish, are invited to an evening of elegance, on Sunday, March 28, when the Jamaica Military Band will be featured in concert, at the Renaissance Jamaica Grande Hotel, in Ocho Rios.
The event will also see local artistes in performance. The concert, under the patronage of the Custos of St. Ann, Radcliffe Walters, and Mrs. Walters, is being organized to raise funds for the Jamaica Legion Poppy Appeal.
At a planning committee meeting on Wednesday (Feb. 4), to organize the musical rendition, Custos Walters said that the sale of poppies to raise funds for the Legion had been declining and as a result other means had to be found to obtain money.
As part of the fundraising effort, a magazine with the history of the Legion as well as the ‘poppy’, among other valuable information, will be on sale at a minimum cost of $100, while adults will be asked to make their contribution to the worthy cause, by purchasing the concert tickets for $500, and students and children pay $200 at the gate.
Persons attending the concert, scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., are being asked to be seated by 4:45 p.m.
