EU Supports Projects in Portland and St. Catherine

Cabinet has approved a $36.7 million contract awarded to Contraxx Enterprises Limited for the Moore Town Road Rehabilitation Project in Portland.
This was disclosed by Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, during the weekly Post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday (August 11) at Jamaica House.
The project is being facilitated under the European Union (EU) Banana Support Programme’s Infrastructure Improvement Project for Traditional Banana Growing Communities, which is being implemented by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF).
Work on the road involves the rehabilitation of 3.6 kilometres of roadway, construction of V-Drains, U-Drains, cross drains and retaining walls, as well as the installation of curbs, channels and culverts.
Cabinet also approved a contract for the expansion and rehabilitation of the March Pen Community Centre, St. Catherine, to Marshall Construction Company Limited for $30.7 million.
The European Union and the Government of Jamaica agreed to fund the project through the Poverty Reduction Programme.
