Employers Urged to Gain Knowledge of Best Practices to Enhance Productivity

The Jamaica Employers’ Federation (JEF) has urged employers to become knowledgeable of the best practices and improved technologies that will enhance productivity.
“It is something that you constantly have to look at especially with all the new information and technology out there,” said Alain Fischer, Manager of Enterprise and Business Development at the JEF.Mr. Fischer, who was addressing a recent JIS Think Tank, said that the technological improvements should be augmented with some kind of productivity incentive scheme.
He said that the JEF has sought to promote these strategies through several initiatives such as its annual convention, which spans a three-day period and provides employers with information about best practices from all over the world.
“We have also created awareness through our Employer of Choice competition, which seeks to highlight the best practices of our employers so that all can benefit. We have done this through research in the area of benchmarking and best practices,” he disclosed.
Partnering with the Jamaica Productivity Centre during National Productivity Awareness Week, from September 3 to 8, is another way that the JEF has sought to educate its stakeholders.
“We see this week as important in highlighting the importance of productivity and also providing relevant information to employers as to how to improve their productivity,” he explained.
Training, he emphasized was a critical component in the work of JEF. “We explore a wide variety of areas that is directed towards improving the qualification and productivity of employers, which will ultimately benefit the country,” Mr. Fischer noted.
In the meantime, Mr. Fischer also stressed that increased productivity could only be achieved if both employers and employees worked together. “You just cannot only have employers working towards this goal and not labour,” he said.
September is being observed as Employer’s Month under the theme: ‘Employment Creation through Entrepreneurship and Business Development.’
