The Full Story

Prime Minster, Bruce Golding, has said that for Jamaica to fully benefit from the tremendous appeal that it has as a tourist destination, efforts must be made to attract the exquisite boutique-type market.
“There are a number of upscale facilities that have been promoted and have been built; we want to continue that, not only because we believe it is an important element of brand Jamaica . but also because it brings to our economy that much more added value, and this is something that we are promoting very actively,” the Prime Minister said.
He was addressing the official opening of the Fern Tree Spa located at the Half Moon hotel in Rose Hall on the weekend.
Noting the property’s contribution to the Jamaica tourist industry, the Prime Minister said: “Half Moon is not so much a product, it’s a process because it is constantly evolving, never satisfied with what it has, constantly expanding, building new things and ensuring that it continues to be so appealing and so attractive to the market that it targets. Half Moon is itself a brand name but Half Moon is very much part of what we call brand Jamaica”.
“I am very pleased to be associated with the opening of this spa and want you to know that the government of Jamaica will do everything to support the efforts of Half Moon and investors like yourselves,” Mr. Golding pledged, noting that the Rose Hall corridor is poised to become a “corridor for extensive development of resort facilities in keeping with the standards, which Half Moon has set.”
The Fern Tree Spa was established at a cost of US$4 million. The project, which began in the summer of 2006, involved the conversion of the resort’s signature Villa Fern Tree House into a 68,000-square foot indoor/outdoor destination spa, which provides a sanctuary for the mind and body.
