Education Ministry Working to Equip Relocated Mahoe Hill All-Age

The Ministry of Education and Youth is working to equip the Mahoe Hill All-Age School in St. Mary, which has been operating out of the HEART Trust Training Centre in Broadgate since February 14.
Minister Maxine Henry Wilson, who recently toured the relocated facility, said that the Ministry was committed to providing the school with the necessary facilities to enable the continued delivery of quality education to the students.
The institution was relocated following the collapse of the Broadgate/Mahoe Hill swing bridge on February 11. The bridge was the only route to the school, which has a student body of 105 and a staff of four.
Mrs. Henry Wilson noted that the relocation process had not presented any serious dislocation, and congratulated the teachers and members of the community for their outstanding work in putting the institution back into operation, so swiftly after the collapse of the bridge.
Expressing sympathy to the community members, who have been displaced as a result of the mishap, Mrs. Henry Wilson said the Ministry would be lobbying to have the bridge replaced as soon as possible, bearing in mind the budgetary limitations and constraints of government.
Principal, Beatrice Brown noted that the school had settled in very well at its new location and thanked the members of the community for the support they provided in the process.
Meanwhile, members of the community told JIS News that they were happy that the school has been able to continue operating albeit at a new location. They said they were particularly pleased that the Grade Six Achievement Test students were able to continue their preparations without major disruption.
