- The fair is targeting persons who recently completed a teacher-training programme
- Teachers will have the opportunity to meet several potential employers
- The Government is unable to absorb all the graduates of teacher-training institutions for the new school year
The Ministry of Education will host a job fair for unemployed teachers on the grounds of the Ministry at National Heroes Circle, in Kingston, on Tuesday, August 13 and Wednesday, August 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The fair is targeting persons who recently completed a teacher-training programme in any of the island’s tertiary institutions and are experiencing difficulties finding a job.
Teachers attending the job fair will have the opportunity to meet several potential employers and to secure appointments to be interviewed. In addition, job seekers will benefit from career development and motivational presentations.
Interested persons are asked to register for the job fair at the email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Ministry’s decision to stage the job fair follows the announcement by Education Minister, Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites, that the Government is unable to absorb all the graduates of teacher-training institutions for the new school year, except for teachers trained in Mathematics, the Sciences, Language Arts, Special Education and Early Childhood Education.
According to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Elaine Foster Allen, “persons qualified as teachers are well rounded, trainable and possess outstanding inter-personal skills that recommend them as model employees in any area.”
She pointed out that the job fair was seeking to present a wide cross section of job opportunities in addition to teaching and training.
