May 16, 2007

The Full Story

The Duanvale United Sports Club in Trelawny will be beautifying and repairing the building, which houses the community and health centres on Labour Day, May 23.
President of the club, Jeffrey Brown, told JIS News that, “we want to restore our community centres to the light, which they once were. We plan to paint and fix the bathroom and kitchen facilities.”
He said that in an effort to build community spirit, this year’s project will be held over two days, so there will be time for labour, as well as for fun. “We plan to incorporate a bit of music, just to bring some excitement into the mix. We will therefore start the project a day before so that we can finish in time,” Mr. Brown explained.
The activities will include a curry goat cricket match, netball matches and a free community dance. Also, food will be provided for all those who labour. In carrying out this project, the Duanvale Club plans to work in collaboration with churches and other service groups, such as the Sunshine Youth Club. Sponsorship will be sought from businesses in and around the community, and it is hoped that the community members will support the effort to labour in fun.
National Labour Day 2007 is being observed under the theme: ‘Honouring Our Ancestors.Strengthening Communities.’
