Donations Coming in for Hurricane Dean Relief Fund

Members of the Jamaican community in the United Kingdom (UK) have started to send donations to the Jamaican High Commission for its Hurricane Dean Relief Fund.
The Fund was launched on Monday (August 20), in response to Hurricane Dean that caused widespread damage to the island on August 19.
The High Commission has said that funds collected would be sent to the island’s disaster management agency, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
High Commissioner Burchell Whiteman has extended sympathies to all Jamaicans who endured and were affected by Hurricane Dean. He said the High Commission in London had started the fund to ensure that there is a swift response to the recovery efforts.
“Our heart is with our countrymen and women at this time. We express profound sympathies and concern for all those who endured and have been affected by the force of this very strong Hurricane. We hope that the High Commission’s Hurricane Relief Fund will assist in a very measurable way to the speedy return to our island’s recovery and return to normality,” he said.
Until otherwise advised, persons wishing to contribute to the relief effort are being asked to make monetary donations. Cheques should be made payable to the: Jamaican High Commission Hurricane Relief Fund, and sent to the Jamaican High Commission, 1-2 Prince Consort Road, London SW7 2BZ.
