Dialogue is Necessary to Solve Country’s Problems – UNDP Executive

Executive Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Civic Dialogue Project, Dr. Noel Watson, has said it was imperative that Jamaicans discuss issues of concern in a collective way, with a view to finding solutions to the country’s problems.

He said this was necessary in order to help stem crime and violence and to move the country forward. Dr. Watson was speaking recently at the monthly meeting of the Trelawny Parish Development Committee, held at the Falmouth Town Hall, in the parish, to discuss the Civic Dialogue Project.

Representatives from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS), Jamaica Fire Brigade, Social Development Commission (SDC), Jamaica Information Service (JIS), citizens associations, and the communities of Kinloss, Bounty Hall, Duanvale, and Troy participated in the dialogue.

The meeting noted that in order for the citizens to participate in positive dialogue and take action toward development, it was essential that both the civic and political groups recognize the importance of policy change, preventative maintenance, prioritization, the capacity to listen and make sacrifices, and the need for transparency.

The annual general meeting of the PDC will be held on Thursday, March 25, at 4:00 p.m.
