Deputy Commissioner of Police Owen Clunie Retires

The Police Services Commission wishes to announce that Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Owen Clunie, has exercised his option to retire from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), under the early retirement incentive scheme recently approved by Cabinet. His retirement is with immediate effect.
DCP Clunie joined the force in 1966 and has given loyal and dedicated service for nearly 39 years. He became a member of the Special Branch in 1970, was a member of the Second Accelerated Promotion Scheme in 1975 and received training both locally and overseas.
He was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1994 and was assigned the Security Portfolio with responsibilities to the Special Branch, Immigration and Protective Services.
In 1997/98, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Crime Portfolio.
DCP Clunie studied law at the University of the West Indies and Norman Manley Law School, and was called to the Bar in 1994.
Charges brought against DCP Clunie in 2001 for unprofessional conduct were heard by a tribunal established by the Police Services Commission and were dismissed as being unfounded without the need for DCP Clunie to offer a defence.
The Commissioner thanks DCP Clunie for his years of sterling service to the people of Jamaica.
