Department of Local Government Hosts Health Fair

The Department of Local Government in the Office of the Prime Minister will host a health fair at its offices at 85 Hagley Park Road in Kingston on Friday, November 21, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Medical Epidemiologist for Chronic Diseases and Injuries at the Ministry of Health and Environment, Dr. Tamu Davidson-Saddler, will be the guest speaker at the opening of the event.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade will provide free blood and ECG (electrocardiogram) tests and hold first aid demonstrations, while the Jamaica Red Cross will offer free H.I.V tests with same-day results.
So-Med Distributors will conduct free blood glucose testing on site. The company is the distributor in Jamaica for Acon testing equipment, and is the source of some of the blood glucose meters, which are distributed free of cost by the National Health Fund (NHF).
Representatives from the Bellevue Hospital in Kingston will speak about mental health and make relevant reading material available, while the National Family Planning Board is expected to educate patrons on family planning issues.
The health fair targets community residents, workers in the surrounding business community and members of staff of the Local Government Department. Flyers have already been circulated in the target areas.
