Dance in Atlanta to Raise Funds for Health Mission to Jamaica

The Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister Cities Health Mission will stage its sixth annual ‘Dance for Health’ on Saturday, September 22, at the Marriott Century Centre Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.
The event will raise funds for the 14th annual health mission to Montego Bay, to be undertaken from October 8-11. Over the past 13 years, the Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister City Health Mission to Montego Bay has contributed more than US$450,000 in medical supplies to the Montego Bay community.
Chairman of the Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister Cities Committee, Vin Martin, told JIS News that some 33,000 residents of Montego Bay and adjacent communities had received medical assistance from the health mission.
He noted that members of the medical team comprise some of the finest physicians, nurses and volunteers. “Their dedication and commitment to the citizens of St. James and the surrounding parishes is exceptional. Not only do our volunteers give their services and their time, but they also pay all their travel and hotel expenses,” he pointed out.
Atlanta’s Mayor, Shirley Franklin, commended the Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister City Committee for the great work it has done “to strengthen the ties that our respective cities and countries share.”
She said that each year the health mission team comes together and gives selflessly to address the health care needs of the residents of Montego Bay. The health mission to Montego Bay is conducted in October each year, which coincides with the city’s anniversary.
This year, because Atlanta is twinned with Montego Bay, the featured guest entertainer will be Alecia Flemming-Shaw, one of Montego Bay and Jamaica’s rising cabaret performers. Jamaica will be represented at the dinner by Janet Madden, Community Relations Attache at the Jamaican Embassy in Washington.
