Damage to Health Facilities Estimated at $168 Million

A total of 112 health facilities across the island were damaged as a result of Hurricane Dean at an estimated cost of $168.4 million.
This is contained in an Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) release on damage assessment of the island’s critical facilities, which was issued on Wednesday (Aug. 29).
According to the release, 29 hospitals and other facilities were damaged at an estimated cost of $58.2 million, while damage to 77 health care centres will cost the country approximately $62.7 million.
Six government-owned residential child care facilities were also damaged at an estimated cost of $47.1 million. In the meantime, power has been restored to 133 health centres while 28 continue to function on generators, the ODPEM release stated.
