The Full Story

MONTEGO BAY – Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill says the link between culture and tourism is essential to marketing, noting that Jamaica’s people, culture, and heritage should be the country’s main marketing tools.

“The question we must ask ourselves is, are we doing enough to tell the story,” he said.

Dr. McNeil was addressing the official reopening of the Seville Exhibition, at the Seville Great House, in St. Ann, on Friday July 12.

The exhibition was made possible through the Tourism Enhancement Fund’s (TEF) provision of $14 million for the refurbishing of the Great House, and the Spanish Jamaica Foundation, which provided $5 million towards the exhibits.

Minister McNeill commended the various agencies that were involved in completing the project.

“Pulling all these things together is about telling the story of the Jamaican people; and that is what makes us different, and that is what gives us the strength in what we do in tourism,” he stated, pointing out that the development and showcasing of Jamaica’s cultural heritage would be more effective in capturing specific tourism markets.
