Crime-Fighting Strategy Bearing Fruit – Senator Macmillan

Minister of National Security, Senator Colonel Trevor MacMillan, says that the new strategies implemented by the security forces to fight the upsurge in criminal activities are having a noticeable impact.
Senator MacMillan told JIS News that “the situation certainly has quietened down,” while noting that there are still some problem areas, but that for the most part, crime in many areas that were “hot” has been contained.
“We have had increased numbers of police and soldiers on the road. However some of the measures that were discussed are still being looked at by the legal people, as the measures have legal and constitutional implications,” he said. The Minister noted however that as soon as this has been settled, the police would look at implementing these additional strategies.
Senator MacMillan also pointed to recent arrests of persons who were wanted by the police for several years as a “sign of things to come.”
“We are doing a lot of things, some of which I cannot mention but it is my humble opinion that things have quietened down,” the Minister emphasized.
He made these remarks during a tour of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Twickenham Park training facility yesterday (July 3) as part of an islandwide tour of facilities under the National Security Portfolio.
