The Full Story

Fifty-two children in State care will be recognised for outstanding achievement by the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) at the entity’s 13th Annual Educational Achievement Awards on Thursday (January 30).

The event was held at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in Kingston.

These students, hailing from across CPFSA’s four regions – western, southern, north east and south east – have demonstrated remarkable academic prowess by passing four or more subjects in the 2024 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

Special recognition will be given to regional CSEC awardees who received the highest subject passes.

In addition, the all-Island winners will receive the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information’s coveted Top Boy and Top Girl Award.

CPFSA’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, Kristen Laing, said the agency is honoured to recognise these outstanding students for their hard work and dedication.

“Their achievements are a testament not only to their resilience but also to the investment the Government of Jamaica has made in their education and overall development. These young scholars have made us incredibly proud, proving that with the right support and opportunities, they can overcome any challenge and achieve greatness,” Ms. Laing said.

Annually, the CPFSA spends more than $80 million in tuition, examination fees and educational supplies for children from the early-childhood to tertiary levels.

The agency seeks to empower children in State care to “break the cycle of disadvantage” and become confident, capable and contributing members of society.
