The Full Story

Cabinet has approved the award of a $205 million contract by the National Housing Trust (NHT) to Alcar Construction and Haulage Company, to undertake infrastructure works at Providence Housing Development Phase II, Ironshore, St. James.
The announcement was made by Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House Wednesday (June 9).
“The NHT intends to develop approximately 148 solutions on 8.8 hectares of land with a minimum service lot size of approximately 300 square meters, with a development cost per lot of approximately $2.4 million,” Mr. Vaz said.
In the meantime, Cabinet also approved the award of a contract by the National Housing Trust (NHT) to Quest Security Services Limited worth $57.6 million, for the provision of security services at the NHT’s head office in Kingston.
“The contract of the incumbent security service provider for the NHT expired in February 2007, and, after two unsuccessful procurement attempts and a delay in the evaluation of the latest attempt, a contract award was approved,” the Minister said.
