The Full Story

Work is set to get underway in January 2016 on the construction of a new ice cream parlour at Devon House in St. Andrew.

The $28 million project is being funded by the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment through the Tourism Enhancement Fund. The new ice cream parlour will be located on the North lawns of the historic site.

“It is those lawns when you are driving out of Devon House. The kids will be able to buy the ice cream and play on the lawns or people can buy and get back in their cars and leave easier than going into the courtyard,” said Executive Director of Devon House,  Janet Taylor, in an interview with JIS News.

The new parlour is expected to provide a larger space for patrons. It will effectively reduce the long lines that have been associated with the courtyard space especially on holidays and weekends.

Work was initially slated to begin this month however, due to the upcoming holiday season a decision was taken to delay the start of construction until next year.

The project forms part of the larger renovation and upgrading of Devon House geared at transforming Kingston into a tourist Mecca.
