Constituency Development Fund Gets $2.45 Billion

The Constituency Development Fund in the Office of the Prime Minister is to receive a total of $2.45 billion, as outlined in the 2008/09 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House.
This allocation will cover administrative expenses of the unit and allocations to the 60 constituencies, with the main thrust of the Fund being to promote human and infrastructure development at the community and constituency levels
This will be done by: catalyzing economic activities at the Constituency level; fostering local governance, including good environmental stewardship; improving service delivery and bring government and the public closer together; and increasing the effectiveness of the elected representative.
The Social and Economic Support Programme (SESP), which will receive $269.821 million, has been incorporated under the new Constituency Development Fund.
