Condolence Book Opens in Toronto for Byron Lee

A condolence book has been opened at the Jamaican Consulate General in Toronto, Canada, in memory of the late musical icon, Byron Lee.
Mr. Lee, who spent more than 50 years in the music industry, passed away in Jamaica, on November 4, after a valiant fight with cancer.
He was a regular on the Toronto scene, frequently performing in this Canadian city with his band the Dragonaires.
Jamaica’s Consul General to Toronto, Anne-Marie Bonner, said she is greatly saddened by the death of the great bandleader and pioneer, and has extended condolences to his family.
“Byron Lee was a pioneering musician, who was able to be successful in all areas of the music business,” said Ms. Bonner.
“He was well loved, not only in Jamaica, but all over the Caribbean. His loss is a major one for the musical fraternity,” she added.
The Consul General has invited all Torontonians to pay their final respects to Byron Lee, affectionately called The Dragon, by coming to the Consulate at 303 Eglinton Avenue East and signing the condolence book.
Jamaicans will say farewell to Mr. Lee on Saturday, November 22, at a Roman Catholic service, at the Abe Issa Auditorium, St. George’s College, Winchester Park, North Street, Kingston, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
