Commuters will have a chance to win more than $1.7 million in cash and prizes in the Jamaica Urban Transit Company’s (JUTC) ‘Ride and Win Summer Bling’.
The promotion is designed to reward consistent JUTC commuters and to encourage more people to choose the company when travelling in the five areas that make up the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR).
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Ride and Win Summer Bling’ promotion, yesterday (July 3), Sales and Marketing Manager, Lenworth Simms, said that it is a brand re-positioning strategy of the JUTC, which aims to increase usage of the JUTC buses and recognize the many commuters who consistently utilize the service.
“It is a reward and recognition service for the people who have used our services, the people who are committed to us and the people who would want to come back to us, because we have the buses to support the programme,” he explained.
Mr. Simms expressed confidence in the success of the promotion, pointing to research which, he said, proved that persons respond more to promotions with cash as the incentive of choice. “We value our customers. We are confident that if we give them an incentive to use the buses, they will respond and we are willing to give an incentive to the tune of $1.7 million,” he added.
The promotion aims to assist in cutting the pilferage in the fare boxes and to encourage the riders to retain their tickets, to demand their correct tickets and to reward commuters for taking the buses. Mr. Simms also anticipates an increase in “Smart Card sales and usage as a spin-off benefit,” from the promotion. He urged commuters to be vigilant in ensuring the transparency of the system.
There is a first prize of $50,000; second prize, $30,000; and third prize, $20,000. Five consolation prizes of $5,000 each will be given to lucky JUTC commuters whose tickets are randomly selected on each draw date.
At the final draw on September 27, 2008, the Grand Prize winner will walk away with a whopping $500,000. Five consolation prizes of $100,000 each are also to be won. Giveaways will include JUTC memorabilia, such as caps, T-shirts and Smart Cards.
To enter, JUTC commuters must submit any ticket valued at $50 or more, complete with their name, address, telephone number, age and the JUTC tagline, ‘Your Route to Excellence’ written on the back.
Entries may be dropped off at any of the following locations – the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre, the lay-by in Spanish Town, Pechon Street, downtown Kingston and any selected Smart Card dealerships.
Mr. Simms promised to execute the promotion with focus, energy and commitment, in tribute to recently slain Chairman of the JUTC, Douglas Chambers, who he said, conceptualized the idea for the promotion and worked arduously towards its implementation.
“We are doing it because we know that our late Chairman would want us to do it. He spent a lot of time assisting us to make all the preparations and so in sincerity to our late Chairman, we will continue and we will make it happen, because JUTC is the ‘route to excellence’,” he said.
