Combined JDF Band for Emancipation and Independence Celebrations in London

Emancipation and Independence celebrations in the United Kingdom (UK) will this year be highlighted by a series of performances from a combined Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) band.
The combined Jamaica Military and Jamaica Regiment band, which is in the UK to support the JDF contingent that will engage in ceremonial duties including the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace starting on July 19, will play at St. James Park, Central London on Emancipation Day, August 1 and Independence Day, August 6.
The orchestra will also make several appearances in and around Central London, as they prepare to commemorate two of Jamaica’s most significant dates.
The 34-strong band, led by director of music Major Roy Wade, is striking, not only for their musicianship, together with their precision and bearing, but also because of the distinctive ‘Zouave’ uniform worn by the Military Band and the full-dress scarlet tunic of the Jamaica Regiment.
Jamaican High Commissioner to the UK, Burchell Whiteman, said the presence of the combined band will help to positively raise the country’s profile.

I urge Londoners and Jamaicans to unite and enjoy together the spectacle of these remarkable men, whose colourful uniform together with their musicianship, captures the pride and glory of the Jamaican Defence Force, and indeed our wonderful country”.
