Clarendon to Commemorate Heritage Week with Several Activities

The Clarendon Heritage Week Committee is hosting several activities in celebration of Heritage Week to be observed from October 12-20 under the national theme for this year, ‘Embracing our heritage.out of many, one people’.
In an interview with JIS News, Chairman of the Committee, Mayor of May Pen, Councillor Milton Brown explained that the week would commence with a church service to be held at the oldest church in Clarendon – the St. Peter’s Anglican Church in the Alley community, on Sunday, October 12, starting at 9:00 a.m.
Mayor Brown also said that an exhibition depicting the history of the different ethnic groups, which comprise the Jamaican population, would be mounted at the new Revenue Service Centre from October 13-17This, he said was in addition to an evening of ‘African and Indian History’ also to be held at the Revenue Service Centre on October 15.
He mentioned further that a panel discussion, which focuses on the ‘Contribution of our National Heroes to National Development’, would be held at the St. James Methodist Church Hall on October 16 at 6:30 p.m.
A tea meeting featuring Jamaican poetry and storytelling will also be held on Friday, October 17 at the Independence Park on Sevens Road.
According to Mayor Brown, the week of activities will culminate with an annual heroes’ day parade on October 20 to be held at the May Pen courthouse.
