The Clarendon Health Department is organising a schools’ poster competition to highlight the need for proper dental hygiene in celebration of dental health month, which is being observed from October 1 to 31.
Health Educator at the Clarendon Health Department, Shelton Maxwell told JIS News yesterday (September 23) that the poster competition, which is expected to involve some 20 schools would culminate the month-long activities on October 31.
According to Mr. Maxwell, first, second, and third place winners will be awarded at the poster competition awards ceremony. However all participants will be given gift packages.
He also mentioned that throughout the month, the Health Department would use different opportunities to promote proper dental hygiene such as health fairs, outreach events and educational sessions in schools.
“We will use the month to sensitize the public, especially school children on the importance of dental health and hygiene and how it fits into the broader picture of maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
Dental Health month is being celebrated under the theme ‘Brushing up on Healthy Lifestyle’.
