The Full Story

Chukka Caribbean Adventures is the winner of the 2007 World Travel Award for the Caribbean’s leading nature tour and adventure excursion operator.
John Byles, Co-Managing Director of Chukka Cove, told JIS News that the company is pleased with the award, which is voted on by travel agents around the world. “It’s an endorsement by the travel professionals of our products and we can distinguish ourselves among the other operators through the world,” he stated.
The seven-year old company, which is headquartered in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, has 38 operations in four Caribbean destinations. “We have 28 operations in Jamaica spread across the island in all the resort areas,” Mr. Byles informed, noting that operations are also in The Turks and Caicos Islands, The Bahamas and Belize.
According to Mr. Byles the company prides itself on “finding the best of nature, history or culture and finding fun ways to enjoy it”.
“We have gone from 10,000 tours in 2002 and right now we are doing about 300,000 tours every year and we have more than 400 employees across the four countries,” he informed.
Chukka Caribbean Adventures offers some of the most extreme and fun-filled excursions including jeep safaris, jungle river tubing, canopy tour, bicycle and all terrain vehicle (ATV) rides, hiking, airboat and jungle buggy, horseback riding, swimming and dog sledding.
A new attraction is caving, with the first operation opened in Belize, while other sites are being looked at in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate the enormous achievements in all sectors of the global travel industry. Voting is cast by travel agents in more than 190 countries around the world.
