Children’s Village Gets Water Tanks from Rotary Club

The Blessed Assurance Children’s Village at Windsor Lodge in Eastern St. James, was presented with six water tanks and a water pump valued at approximately $350,000, by the Rotary Club of Montego Bay, on June 10.
This donation is part of the Rotary Club’s objective of enhancing the water supply to the home, which provides care and shelter for many children with severe disabilities. It is hoped that the home will soon be upgraded to cater to approximately 70 disadvantaged children.
In his message at a dedication ceremony where the water tanks were officially handed over to the home, Minister of Tourism and Member of Parliament for the area, Edmund Bartlett, said the storage tanks could not have come at a more opportune time, as it was the beginning of the hurricane season.
“We know that often the hurricane season means unsteady supply of water, and water, especially when caring for children, is essential. I know that the club has been a dedicated donor to the village over the years, contributing much needed appliances, equipping the kitchen and wash room and providing other vital supplies for the children,” Mr. Bartlett noted.
In his message, read by Montego Bay’s businessman, Winston Deer, the Minister said the gesture was testimony to the principles that guide the Rotary Club.
Mayor of Montego Bay, Charles Sinclair, congratulated members of the Rotary Club and others who have contributed unselfishly to the development of the Blessed Assurance Children’s Village.
“This donation of water tanks from the Rotary Club of Montego Bay is symbolic of our ability as a nation to aid the development of our brethren as we seek to better care for those in need,” he said.
The Blessed Assurance Children’s Village is a Mustard Seed Community project. It was opened on January 18 and aims at serving marginalized children and those with severe disabilities in Northwestern Jamaica. This year the Mustard Seed celebrates 30 years of service to Jamaica.
