Children in Hanover Feted

More than 1,000 children from the parish of Hanover were yesterday (Dec. 16) treated to a day of fun and excitement as the Parish Council staged its annual Christmas fete.
The festivities began at 10:00 a.m. in the municipal car park in Lucea, where the children were treated to free rides, games, music and refreshment. At about 2:00 p.m., the party was moved to the nearby Parish Council building, where Mayor of Lucea, Lloyd Hill, handed out gift packages.
Mayor Hill told JIS News that this year, the treat for the children was separated from the Christmas tree lighting ceremony and concert, as the Council wanted to give each event its special focus. The tree lighting ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 18.
He informed that several companies had made donations toward the staging of the events. “It’s quite an expensive venture. Our budget is showing approximately $1.7 million in terms of cost. We have actually received over $500,000 in cash, but there are other things that have been contributed by various persons and organisations. The response from (the corporate community) has been good,” he stated.
In wishing happiness and prosperity for residents of the parish and all Jamaicans, the Mayor pledged that, come 2009, the Council will be more diligent and aggressive in managing its resources and earning revenue, to improve the level of service provided to residents.
