Chief Medical Officer Travels to Barbados for CARICOM Regional Summit on Healthcare

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sheila Campbell Forrester is to make a presentation at the Commonwealth Business Council/CARICOM Regional Summit on Healthcare, to be held in Bridgetown, Barbados from June 15 to 16, 2009. The Meeting is being held under the theme: “Strengthening Healthcare Delivery in the Caribbean: The Role of Infrastructure, eHealth and Clinical Management.”
Dr. Campbell Forrester has been asked to give Jamaica’s perspective on “Identifying Priorities for Healthcare Infrastructure and eHealth; the Role of Information and Communication Technologies in Primary Healthcare and Public Health-Sustainable Models”.
She will also be chairing a session which will be discussing the procurement of Medical Equipment.
The objectives of the CBC/CARICOM Regional Summit are to identify the opportunities and challenges for delivering effective healthcare in the region, drawing on practical solutions through strengthened healthcare infrastructure, eHealth and clinical management.It is hoped that at the end of the meeting, Health Officials in the public and private sectors of the member states will have a better understanding of how to develop programmes and partnerships towards implementing healthcare infrastructure and eHealth policies.
The Summit will involve Regional Ministers of Health, Finance and Information Technology, other Health officials, NGOs, as well as officials from regional and international agencies, including the PAHO and the CARICOM Secretariat.
