By: , May 17, 2013

The Full Story

Planning for Labour Day 2013 is on in earnest in St. James, with approximately 41 projects already registered with the parish committee.
The renovation of the Charles Gordon Market in Montego Bay has been selected as the parish project.

The work is estimated to cost $4.3 million and includes refurbishing of vendors stalls, repair and painting of walls, patching and painting of the car park, rebuilding of planter boxes, and general cleaning.

According to Secretary Manager of the St. James Parish Council, Gerald Lee, the work to be carried out on the market is very extensive, and as such, activities will begin before Labour Day.

There are plans to stage a religious concert in the vicinity of the market, at the end of Labour Day activities on May 23.

Businesses or individuals, who wish to contribute to the parish project, are being asked to contact the St. James Parish Council.

The Workers Week/Labour Day church service will take place at the Hillview Baptist Church in Albion on May 19, starting at 11:00 a.m.

Labour Day 2013 is being held under the theme: ‘Lend a Hand…Build our Land’. Projects can be registered through the Social Development Commission or the parish council.
